When searching for a personal protection dog or training services, people often turn to Google to find the best options. At Battle Born Performance K9, we understand the importance of making an informed decision. Here are the most common questions people ask when looking for protection dog training—and the answers that set us apart.
What is the difference between a guard dog and a personal protection dog? A guard dog is typically trained to patrol an area and alert owners to intruders but may not be trained to defend on command. A personal protection dog, on the other hand, is obedient, social, and trained to protect its owner or family upon command while remaining a loving companion in daily life. What breeds make the best personal protection dogs? Some of the best breeds for personal protection include: ✅ Belgian Malinois – Highly intelligent and athletic. ✅ German Shepherds – Loyal, obedient, and strong. ✅ Doberman Pinschers – Naturally protective and trainable. ✅ Dutch Shepherds – Agile and excellent working dogs. If you're unsure whether your dog is suited for protection training, our expert trainers at Battle Born Performance K9 can evaluate their temperament and abilities. Can I train my own dog for protection? While some dogs have natural protective instincts, proper protection training requires expert guidance. Protection work involves: ✔️ Controlled bite training to ensure a safe and measured response. ✔️ Advanced obedience to prevent unnecessary aggression. ✔️ Real-world scenario training to simulate threats. At Battle Born Performance K9, we offer custom training programs to help owners develop their dog’s natural protective instincts in a controlled and responsible manner. Is a personal protection dog safe around my family? Yes! When trained properly, a personal protection dog is both a fierce protector and a loving companion. At Battle Born Performance K9, we ensure that protection dogs are: ✔️ Well-socialized with families, children, and pets. ✔️ Trained to respond only when commanded. ✔️ Calm and non-aggressive in everyday situations. How much does personal protection dog training cost? Pricing varies depending on the level of training, the breed of dog, and the specific security needs. At Battle Born Performance K9, we offer customized programs to match your budget and security requirements. Contact us today for a consultation and personalized quote. Register today and secure your spot for a weekend of intensive learning and K9 camaraderie! It's important to remember protection sports such as PSA are not breed specific. There are many dogs considered "off breed" showing success in protection sports. However, at the same token it is important to understand not every dog is destined for a career in protection sports. The biggest misconception amongst newcomers to protection sports is the belief that any dog of a standard protection dog breed will excel in protection dog sports. These breeds include the German Shepherd, Doberman Pinscher, Rottweiler, Bully-type breeds, Cane Corso, and the Belgian Malinois or Dutch Shepherd to name a few. Sadly, that couldn't be any further from the truth! Dogs who offer the highest chances of success are bred with purpose out of parents that are proven and titled in protection sports. However, that's not to say dogs of unknown lineage do not offer any chance of success! Traits we look for in any protection sport prospect dog are: confidence, sociability, stability, prey and food drive, athleticism, and a desire to please just to name a few. Battle Born Performance K9 can help you determine if your dog has what it takes with one of our protection sport evaluations. Learn more: |
